Updated: Nov 23, 2023

Jagadguru Kripalu ji maharaj

Most novice devotional practitioners desire to visit the places of pilgrimage or some holy site in Braja, where God performed His sportive plays. They most of all want to visit the four dharmas, the four holy places of pilgrimage. However, when they reach a certain level of maturity in their devotional practice, sankirtan becomes their only desire. As one's belief that God dwells in His name becomes stronger, then that practitioner goes on immersing himself deeper and deeper into the nectar of sankirtan. In order to bring all practitioners to this stage, and to resurrect and revive the holiness and divinity of places of pilgrimage, Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj visited many such places from time to time with his devotional practitioners.

He would frequently visit Vrindavan and stay there sometimes for months on end, taking devotees to different sacred spots in Braja. Accompanying them on the bus, he made the travelling more joyful by commencing sankirtan, radhe govinda govinda radhe; the bus would move slow or fast in harmony with the speed of the sankirtan. It was great fun as well as blissful for all to travel with him and sit so close by. He would distribute food going near to everyone.

In a white dress with long curly hair and a golden shiny face like a morning sun, he would lead the lovers of sankirtan into the jungle and into the bushes, down lanes and bylanes, and along roads curtained by green trees on either side. The entire atmosphere would be surcharged with transcendental happiness, where he inundated all with brajarasa by conducting blissful sankirtan. The trees, birds, animals, and wayfarers all would join him.

He was always respectful to all temples and sects and helped many of them financially. He reconciled all thoughts and beliefs prevalent within divergent sects or religions and composed many verses eulogizing the various places of Braja and its temples, thereby immensely adding to the importance of sankirtan. In conclusion, the legacy of Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj is one of profound spirituality, devotion, and the resounding power of sankirtan. He recognized that while pilgrimage to holy sites in Braja is a cherished desire for many, the true pinnacle of devotional practice lies in the immersion into the divine melodies of sankirtan. His teachings and actions were a testament to his commitment to guiding practitioners toward this ultimate stage of spiritual evolution.

Through his visits to sacred places, especially Vrindavan, he not only revived the holiness of these locations but also made them come alive with the joyful resonance of sankirtan. Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj's charismatic presence, clad in white attire, led his devotees into the heart of Braja's natural beauty, where the atmosphere was charged with transcendental happiness. The very elements of nature, along with people from all walks of life, joined in the chorus of devotion.

His unwavering respect for temples and various sects, his financial support, and his inclusive approach towards diverse thoughts and beliefs, further enriched the practice of sankirtan. In this way, he left behind a legacy that not only honored the divine but also celebrated the unity and spiritual evolution that can be achieved through the harmonious melodies of devotion.
